In
our class we had to do a 60 second speech on something you felt strongly about.
So I decided to do my topic on the inhumanity of veal. I don't eat veal,
because I know about the awful things that happen to them. Quite frankly, if
bacon was a vegetable, I would be a vegetarian. So without further ado, this is
sixty seconds on why you shouldn't eat veal.
I want you to close your eyes and imagine that when you were born you were snatched from your mother and dumped into a dark, damp wooden pen. With no lights. Adding to this agony, you are chained to inhibit movement to standing or squatting.
Imagine having weak muscles that are so feeble that you are barely kept alive by drugged liquid food, and injected chemicals, while you stand in your own waste. Imagine never getting to see anyone else, except for the uncaring man who feeds you. Imagine never getting to see your family, not even knowing what you look like. Not even knowing what it’s like to feel loved.
Then imagine after 16 months of this unbearable existence, being taken into the light for the first time, only to be hung upside down and have your throat slit, imagine blood rushing from your body, causing you to endure horrifying pain for your last 40 minutes on earth.
Why are these wicked things done? To merely create an oral sensation called veal. Over one million calves are raised like this every year, for your consumption. Sure it creates variety of tastes and employment, but any alternative food product provides this. It can be stopped quickly. By you, me and everyone else. By just saying no to veal.
